Luke 12:16-21
16And he
spake a parable unto them, saying, "The ground of a certain rich man
brought forth plentifully: "
17"And
he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no
room where to bestow my fruits? "
18"And
he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater;
and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. "
19"And
I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many
years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. "
20"But
God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of
thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? "
21"So
is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
Jesus did not condedmn this farmer becauswe he was a good farmer.and
made a lot of money. he condemned him because he made money his god.
- I. the man in the parable.
- A. he was a prosperrous man.
v.16. Prosperity may come as a result of obeying God. (
Proverbs
3:10,9. Honour THE LORD with thy substance, and
with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
- 10 So
shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out
with new wine.)
- (Luke 6:38)
But it is not necessarily a sign of God's aproval
of a person's lifestyle..
- Poverty too,, is not
necessarily an indication thaty god is displeased with us. If that were
so we would have to concllude that most of God's
- greatest saints lived their
lives out of godd's will.
- B.He was a Planner vs.17.
- C.He was a prudent man
v.18
II. The money in the parable
- A. It was not sinful.. Money
isneutral. It is only what we make it.
- B. It did not satisfy. This
man was never content. He
kept seeking something he did not have.
- C. It
could not save. No
amount of wealth could ever buy a place in Heaven.
II. His MISTAKE
- A. he was selfish. He used
the personal pronoun 12 times in 3 verses. He lived to please one
person.-himself
- B. He left God out of his
life. "He
that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is
condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name
- of the
only begotten Son of God. "
John 3:18
Matthew 16:26:
"For
what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his
own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? "
Mark 8:37:
"Or
what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? "
