Matthew 2:1-12 1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, 2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. A. Let us consider the word "wise" and what it means: 1.
Webster defines it as: deep understanding; keen discernment; making
sound judgments.
The Bible definition of "wise" is
heavenly wisdom.2. Webster's definition is in line with the Bible. however, the Bible definition of "wise" goes farther than man's definition. James 3:13-17 13Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. 14But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. 15This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.16For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. 17But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
A..
They had the scriptures which told of a coming messiah, and they had
prophets who prophesied of his coming (Numbers 24:17)

George Beverly Shea was planning a life in the entertainment world. His
mother tried to get him to go to church with her, but he was not
interested.B.Othrs have done the same. As she started to go church one Sunday she left a note where her son could find it. It simply said, "What is a man profited if he gain the whole world and lose his soul." It was then that he became converted and wrote the song:"I'd rather have Jesus Than silver or gold...." III. How they sought him. A.
Seriously.
1.
it was not a joke with them.
B. Persistently2. It was not a pleasure trip for them. IV. They found Him. vs. 10-11 10When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. 11And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. A.
God promises to be found of them that seek him.
V. THEIR COURSE WAS CHANGED 12 And being
warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they
departed into their own country another way. B. What they did when they found Him. 1.
They rejoiced.
3. They gave Him gifts.2. They fell down. a.
When saul met Him on the Damascas raod he fell down. Acts 9:4
4And he fell
to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, "Saul, Saul,
why persecutest thou me? " b. John, on the Isle of Patmos saw Hi and fell down. Revelation 1:17 17And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, "Fear not; I am the first and the last: " A.
We have untold stories of those who went home another way as a result
of meeting Jesus
