PRINCIPLES OF GOOD STEWARDSHIP  12/6/09
1 Corinthians :4
1Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.
2Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
3But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self.
4For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.
5Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.
6And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another.
7For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?
8Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye have reigned as kings without us: and I would to God ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.
9For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.

One of the greatest teachings in the Bible is that of stewardship. Superseded only by the doctrine of salvation. sadly neglected by many.
A One of the basic principles of the Christian way of life. You can not keep this principle without a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
This is important.
I. WHAT IS STEWARDSHIP?  Taking care of that which belongs to another.

1. If you are an employee of a company then you are taking care of that company's business.
2. Whatever line of work you are in; if you are not the owner, then you are a steward.
B. steward: One who oversees the affairs of another, the manager, administrater of anothers affairs.
II. GOD IS THE OWNER OF ALL.
A. God is the creator
B. We brought nothing with us when we came into this world.1 Timothy 6:7  7"For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out"
III. GOD GIVES TO US ALL THAT WE HAVE.
James 1:17. 16Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning".
A. he doesn't give everybody the same things or the same amount.
Matthew.25:14-18  14"For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. "
15"And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. "
16"Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. "
17"And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. "
18"But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money. "
 B. The talents are abilities.
IV. GOD REQUIRES US TO BE FAITHFUL.
A. To be faithful is top recognize that what we have in our possesion is not ours but God's.
B. We are to be diligent in our affairs. How we handle those thiongs which are his.
V. WE WILL ALL GIVE AN ACOUNT OF OUR STEWARDSHIP AT THE JUDGMENT SEAT OF CHRIST
2 Corinthians 5:10  10For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body,
according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

The Judgment Seat of Christ mentioned in the above verse will be a place reseved only for Christians. This will not be a place to find out if
one has made it to Heaven. The way to Heaven is by simply trusting Jesus as your saviour. Then you can be a steward of your life for God

9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
